Been to this place dozens of times.
Classic bbq joint in Birmingham.
Consistency on the ribs are more on par than other places. The classic sauce and also banana pudding is a must.
Is it the best in Birmingham or the region? Not really. But definitely place that bbq on the map for Alabama. -

I've been to this Dreamland dozens of times (okay, I live just up the street), and it's consistently good. Did you know that this location serves more sauce than any other in the chain? It's always busy!
Plenty of indoor seating can accommodate plenty of people, but parking is mostly on-street in a residential neighborhood. There are two parking lots beside the restaurant, and one parking lot behind Wilson's Market across the street.
The food is consistently good. Go for the ribs and sauce - they're amazingly smokey with a good bite to them - they're not "fall-off-the-bone" tender. You gotta put some tooth in 'em.
The pulled pork is good. The quesadillas are GREAT, and my kids and I agree they have the best chicken fingers around. If I'm feeling really indulgent I'll get the nachos smothered in smoked chicken or pork.
Really delicious, super casual and FUN! -

I stopped thru on a road trip and decided to try this spot.
Let's start w the Pros:
+seated quickly
+attentive service
+reasonably priced
+food came quickly
+sausage delicious
+banana pudding authentic and yummy
Cons:
-ribs weren't smoky at all
-same house bbq sauce that they provide with all the meat
-mac n cheese was made with cheese sauce, not baked
-eat on styrofoam plates and plastic silverware
I think next time I'm in town I'll try somewhere else. It scratched the bbq itch but Nothing amazing here -

Based on the ambiance, neighborhood feel, and legendary reputation of the restaurant, I want to love this place; however, in my experience, their food is mediocre and does not compete with other BBQ establishments in the city.
On my most recent visit, I ordered a half slab of ribs (sauced) and a side of macaroni and cheese. The sauce on the ribs was delicious, but the ribs, themselves, left a whole lot to be desired. There was a lot of gristle and a minimal amount of meat. At times I felt like I was eating jerky. Very disappointing. The macaroni and cheese was "luke warm" and quite bland. Fortunately, my husband made wiser choices than me and I got to enjoy some of his deliciousness in the smoked sausage and potato salad. Both of which were completely satisfying. For desert, we shared a small order of the banana pudding. Again, I felt like it was nothing to write home about. Nice consistency, but it lacked sweetness.
In addition to the mediocre food, or service this evening was sub-par. Our server was attentive upon our arrival but then seemed to disappear for a long period of time. So much so that he stated, "I almost forgot about you guys."
Again, I really want to love this place, but, I think I will reserve my BBQ fix for other restaurants in the city that wow me every time. -

How can anyone go wrong with this store. Looks like a shack, feels like a shack, and the food is amazing....ok, maybe I was exaggerating a little with the shack comment, however it's not a fancy looking place. The staff is always super friendly, and a must visit on holidays. By the way, if you're into ribs, their meat simply falls off the bone. The menu is super simple, and the service lighting fast. What more could one ask for with BBQ? Enjoy!
